Ship in Six

Challenge #5: Plan a date with yourself to win

In lesson 5, you learned that if you want your project to see the light of day, you've gotta keep working… even when you don't feel like it.

Now it's time to put that lesson into ACTION!

Just like feeding your cats or kids or watering your plants or picking up your mail or going to work… the key to acting consistently is to have a schedule.

So your challenge for today is really simple: Create a "date night" for you and your project.

Pick one day a week, and set a time to work on That Thing for 2-3 hours straight.

Put it on your calendar.

Set an alarm for that time.

Set a second alarm for a few hours in advance so you can be sure to clear your schedule in time, rather than arriving at that time and going "Oh shit, but I have to finish x first."

If you're really prone to overruns and "I-gotta-firsts", set a third alarm for the day before so you can prepare in advance.

(This also works great if you're prone to arriving at the date-and-time and wondering, "Now what do I do?" Break out your backwards plan and get your materials together in advance. That's JFS Principle #13.)

Don't let your creative ambitions starve.

Do it right now: Pick your day and time, and put it on the calendar for the next 4 weeks.

And then keep that weekly date with yourself and your future. :)
